Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?

Unweighted GPA uses the plain 4.0 scale, so an A is always 4.0. Weighted GPA adds extra points for harder classes, so an A in an AP class can count as 5.0.

How many extra points do honors and AP classes get?

Most schools add 0.5 for honors and 1.0 for AP, IB or dual enrollment. Some schools use different amounts, so check your school handbook.

How many credits should I enter?

Most high school classes are 1 credit for a full year, or 0.5 for a semester. If you are not sure, leave every class at 1.

Is this the same GPA my school reports?

It is a close estimate. Schools can use their own scales, so your official GPA may differ slightly.

What is a good high school GPA?

A 3.0 unweighted is a solid B average. A 3.5 or higher helps with many college applications, and 3.8+ is competitive for selective schools.
